Beetroot (Beta vulgaris rubra) in the right dosage has many effects including vasodilation, lowering blood pressure and reducing oxidative stress [31]. Beetroot supports the positive absorption of glucose in the intestine and can therefore be beneficial for metabolic problems such as Equine Metabolic Syndrome and Cushing's. In addition, it mediates the positive uptake of glucose in the skeletal muscles and could therefore be very well suited for PSSM (polysaccharide storage myopathy) horses, as it may increase the energy supply to the muscles without having to use classic grain (starch). Flaxseed can have a positive effect on the coat of horses. One study showed that flaxseed can support muscles by reducing the amount of waste produced during a workout. Alfalfa hay, also known as alfalfa, is an excellent source of energy, protein, calcium and some other nutrients for horses in special situations such as growth, pregnancy and lactation. Hay made from grass, as it is customary in our country, is popular due to its lower energy, protein, and calcium content. Hay meets the nutritional needs of the majority of horses in Germany.
